John Jesus Pacheco passed away on 18 May 2026 in Las Vegas, NV.  He was born 06 Feb 1947 to Frank P. and Emelia (Robinson) Pacheco in Las Vegas, Nevada.  He attended Clark County schools, including Bishop Gorman High School, Las Vegas High School, and graduated from Rancho High School in 1965.  Although he didn’t graduate from LVHS, most of us had known him since elementary school around the valley.

He married Claire Naples of Las Vegas on 29 June 1973, whom we believe is the mother of John’s daughter Ashley Pacheco.

In April 2026, a community memorial campaign titled Honoring Vegas Legend: John Jesus Pacheco Caregiving & Legacy was organized by local arts community members to assist his family with final medical expenses and to fund a permanent memorial plaque at the Community Healing Garden.

Las Vegas is a city built on neon and spectacle, but its soul was hand-painted by John Pacheco.

For decades, John has been a cornerstone of our cultural landscape. He is the master sign painter whose hand defined the aesthetic of "Old Vegas," a prolific muralist, and a fine artist whose work lives in the heart of the Arts District and throughout the state. But John’s contribution went far beyond the canvas; as a former Arts Commissioner, he was a fierce advocate for our creative community and a public servant who helped shape the city’s cultural policy.

Most recently, John served as a devoted caretaker and Mayor of sorts for the Las Vegas Community Healing Garden. He didn’t just tend to the grounds; he served as a steward for a space of sacred recovery for our entire community.

The Mission: As John nears the end of his life's creative journey, we want to ensure his artistic and civic legacy is honored with the dignity it deserves. While his service to Las Vegas is in its finale, the arrival of sudden medical and final expenses is a burden no family should have to carry forward alone.

Because we know the Pacheco family values their privacy and pride, we—his friends and colleagues in the arts community—are stepping up to lead this effort. We are asking the community John loved to join us in supporting his family during this difficult transition.

John Pacheco spent his life beautifying our streets and protecting our history.  Now, it is our turn to support the family of a man who literally painted the town.
