William Robert “Bob” Downey
William Robert "Bob" Downey, age 77, passed away on the morning of February 29, 2024 in a rehab facility in Cedar City, Utah after a courageous 2-year battle with cancer.
Bob was born October 3, 1946 in Las Vegas, Nevada to Daniel Leo “Danny” and Josephine Gibson Downey. He and his sister, Linda, and brother, Clayton, were raised by their mother after their father died at the age of 28. Bob graduated from Las Vegas High School in 1965, where he was a member of the football, basketball, and track teams. He married Sharon Taylor on Nov 8, 1983 in Las Vegas.
Bob worked for the City of Las Vegas for over 31 years and was ultimately talked into retirement by his wife. They then moved to Parowan, Utah. He enjoyed his retirement for 5 years until Sharon retired and “cut into his time”. From then on you never saw one without the other; they were always together. Sharon talked Bob into going to hockey games in Las Vegas and he learned to enjoy the game, becoming a huge Vegas Golden Knights fan. He also enjoyed tinkering around the house with "his projects".
Bob is preceded in death by his father Daniel Downey, mother Josephine Gibson Downey, and sister, Linda Downey Rawson. He is survived by his older brother, Clayton, and his wife of just over 40 years, Sharon Taylor Downey. He is also survived by his 2 step-daughters: Tiffany (Christopher) and Marci (Chris); 4 grandchildren: Kaylee, Ashley, Alexandra, and Landon. He was a proud grandfather and loved being with his family, including many nieces and nephews who all have cherished memories of their Uncle Bob.
Bob will be dearly missed by all those who knew him. He always made you feel at ease with that infectious smile of his. A gentle giant of a man!
