William David Maslow

William David Maslow was born in Tucson, AZ on August 12, 1947 to parents Myer Maslow and Ruth Fihlstein, both of New York City.  Myer’s parents, Paul and Minnie Maslow, were both immigrants from Russia in 1908 and 1910.  Ruth’s parents, David and Alice Fihlstein, were immigrants from Romania in 1910 and 1903.

William was educated in Tucson schools, attending Rincon High School for two years prior to moving to Las Vegas.  His father, Myer, was a major residential developer in Tucson, and came to Las Vegas to develop the Desert Hills community in the early 1960s.

William graduated from Las Vegas High School in 1965 and received an academic scholarship to Arizona State University in Tempe, AZ.  He was elected to Phi Eta Sigma, a scholastic honorary for freshmen men at ASU.  He graduated ASU in 1969 and returned to do graduate work in sociology.  He was an outspoken anti-Vietnam War advocate.

He married Carol Ann Hawthorne, daughter of James Harrison and Dorotha (Emery) Hawthorne of Canon City, Colorado, on September 2, 1967.  The couple made Tempe their home, as they both continued their studies at ASU.  They had two children; daughter Sage Hawthorne Maslow was born in Phoenix on January 17, 1971 and died in a car accident in Parsippany, New Jersey January 23, 1994, age 22.  Records of the other child have not been made public.

William passed away on August 30, 1983, age 36, in New York City, of cancer.  His ashes were scattered over Kitt Peak near Tucson, AZ, as were the ashes of his daughter, Sage, eleven years later.
