Peter moved to Las Vegas in time for 8th grade at Fremont.  He spoke with a slight New York accent he lost over time.  I was one of his first friends. We took wood shop from Mr. McDowell, mostly goofed off during class, occasionally interrupting to plane a piece of wood, then smooth it off on the sanding machine. Our first project was a book rack that should have taken 20 minutes but somehow consumed 3 weeks to glue together.  After that a bread board with legs that weren't quite even I gave my mother for Christmas.

We only had 45 minutes for lunch, but we played basketball on the blacktop courts,  Sahara Avenue side of the school.  Peter and I were the same height, equal in ability (average), typically chosen third or fourth and guarded each other.  Russell Masek, a respected player, was ecstatic when I blocked Peter's layup once.  Peter allowed me to bask in glory, too much a gentleman to call the foul.

We didn't hang out together much at Vegas High, but I understand he was a ladies' man because of his looks and cool personality.  Nice guy, easy to be around.
