Sally and I were best of friends all through high school.  We were in Pep Club together and never missed a game.  Her mom always dropped us off and picked us up until Sally learned to drive.  Anna and Kris Lenning, Sally and I would pile into her mom's old bronze Volvo.  The light switch would not always work so we would have to pop the hood and put a bobby pin across the contacts to to turn the lights on.  We cruised Fremont Street and stopped at Blackett's on Boulder Highway for french fries and a Coke.  We also would stop at the Blue Onion Drive-in if the weather was nice.  We would all throw in a quarter to replace the gas we would burn so her mom wouldn't know how much we drove around.

Sally taught me to drive that Volvo in a parking lot.  It was a stick shift and I don't how many times we went around in circles bumping and jerking until I got the hang of the clutch.  Looking back we were lucky that I didn't  strip gears or drop the transmission!!

Sally and I kept in contact with letters and then e-mail.  I was so excited when we had planned to meet for the first time after graduating at the reunion in 2005.  We picked up right where we had left off so many years before. Her husband was the nicest guy ever and he was just as excited as we were to re-live all those old, great memories.  We continued to e-mail and exhange Chirstmas cards after that reunion.  Then e mails stopped and card exchanges stopped and I knew that something had happened.

I found her obituary and cried I just couldn't believe she had passed.  Her husband passed away just 9 days after she did.  I have no idea what happened.  She was an only child and her parents were both deceased.  I am so thankful we re-connected in 2005 to share good times.

Rest in peace my sweet friend.

What a bittersweet story about two very good friends parting.  I'm so happy to hear that you DID get to reunite and have a brief re-acquaintance after our reunion!  Thanks so much for sharing this with us.
